ADDITIONAL HOMEOWNER SERVICES

In addition to our main services we also offer solutions for smaller issues that require a structural engineering report.
We have extensive experience working on smaller residential projects and can provide the service you require

GARAGE CONVERSIONS

The perfect cost-effective solution for someone who wants to increase their living space but doesn’t want to build an extension. A garage conversion can be significantly cheaper than having an extension built.

One of our certified local structural engineers will assess the garage to make sure it is structurally sound. Any necessary calculations or changes that are required will go into a design that makes sure your conversion is safe, has structural integrity and meets all Building Control and Local Council regulations.

RESIDENTIAL NEW BUILDS

Consultancy for structural stability and issues surrounding projects for a new or self-build residential property.

Making sure your design and plans are correctly implemented from the start is crucial in the creation of a new or self-build property. Ensuring the planning stage is properly executed is vital for keeping your costs from skyrocketing.

A structural engineer will provide designs and calculations for the foundations, structures and any unique aspect of the property build. These will all adhere to and pass Building Control Regulations to let you successfully get your new project off the ground.

BUILDING CONTOL APPROVALS

We produce drawings, calculations and specifications to ensure your construction project complies with Building Control Regulations.

A qualified structural engineer will provide designs, drawings and calculations which will be used by your building contractor and architect when work commences.

Building Control may also need this information to be provided to comply with Building Regulations. Planning Officials may also require this documentation depending on the scale of the project in order for you to obtain planning permission for your proposal.

Examples of some property alterations which require structural engineer services can include but are not limited to:

  • Building an extension
  • Loft/Basement Conversions
  • Fitting Solar Panels to the property
  • Modifying doors and windows
  • Removal or alteration of internal walls
  • Underpinning floors
  • Removing a chimney

FOUNDATION DESIGN

All structures must interact with the ground and we can create the foundation design that is perfect for your buildings requirements.

We have leading structural engineers who have experience in designing foundations for buildings on all different ground conditions common to the UK. The appropriate foundation will be tailored to the conditions and characteristics of the site’s ground. Calculations on how the plot will interact with the building loads will be combined with the ground conditions to produce a cost effective, durable foundation design.

SWIMMING POOLS

If you are looking to add an open or enclosed swimming pool to your property we can provide detailed designs for the construction of your swimming pool.

When installing a swimming pool onto your property there are many factors that need to be taken into account. The structure of the swimming pool needs to be designed to withstand the pressures exerted on it in two differing circumstances. Firstly, when the pool is filled the structure needs to keep the water contained whilst also taking into account the pressure from the weight being placed on the sides and base of the subsoil.
The second circumstance is when the pool is empty, the pressure that has built up when the pool is filled starts to pushback and this can easily cause cracking or uplift.

Our structural engineers will make calculations based on these unique load combinations and variables to create the appropriate design solution to ensure the successful construction of your swimming pool can begin.

RETAINING WALLS

When building a retaining wall on your property there are many questions that need to be answered before the wall can be erected such as:

  • What is it retaining?
  • What shape is it?
  • What does it have to look like?
  • Are there buildings or traffic movement to be retained by the wall?
  • What are the soil conditions?
  • What’s drainage like?
  • How much wind force can it be exposed to?

Our professional structural engineers can answer all these questions and more to provide the most optimized solution for the construction of your retaining wall, making sure that it meets all your requirements.

under pinning

UNDERPINNING

If your property or building has suffered from subsidence which is caused by the downward movement of the site on which a building stands you may need to have it underpinned.

Underpinning is a technique used to rectify properties that suffer from or have suffered from subsidence.

A structural engineer can survey your property to ascertain whether or not the building needs to be underpinned. Our expert engineers can produce the designs required to properly strengthen the foundations of your property in this situation.
